• In Broward County, single-family homes and duplexes are exempted from the 40-year recertification requirement. Buildings under 3,500 square feet, buildings on Native American reservations, state and federal buildings and Broward County schools are also exempt from this requirement.
• Miami-Dade County offers exemptions to the 40-year recertification rule only for buildings under 2,500 square feet, private homes, duplexes and buildings with 10 or fewer occupants and an area of less than 2,000 square feet.
